View full sized The Coal Distribution Card on the site of the Dock Street Station

A look at Pill's lost industries ... Immediate right is the Dock Street Caol concentration depot. This was on the sight of Dock Street Station which was at one time the main station of Newport. Below shows the river bank and Cashmores, enlarging the image wil show the conning tower of a submarine, one of the last vessels to be broken here in Newport.

Below is another view of the yard and also of the bus depot which was near. The large image is taken around 1900 and show a fine mixture of steam and sail in the Alexandra Docks.

The Legendary "Pill Heritage Centre" was an Aladdins cave of memories and photographs, which, on entering , transported you back in time, to , "The old days of Pill". Sadly, We no longer ,have the pleasure of visiting, "The Heritage Centre", but gladly ,like" The Pheonix" Quiet Womans Row,has once again, risen , within, this lovely site, to present us with another Time capsule ,full of memories, of which, you should be ,so very proud jan. Thanks for" My memories" jan .Good luck and best wishes love from JAN(addicted) .........A Question..Mid 70,s the boilermakers, (close to the old Tredegar Arms pub)Church st? ran a youth club, they had a float in one of the carnivals, I could be wrong, but im sure it had an american theme, Stars and stripes, maybe Rock and Roll?????Any Evidence To support this Jan?If not, No Worries.TTFN

  3. Great site Jan, quality pictures of my two main interests of the mid 70s, County and the Ken club.

  11. Jan, what a great website. Your dedication and hard work should be appreciated by the city council and everyone who has a connection with Newport and Pill. Looking forward to more pictures and stories of years gone by. Any chance of pictures of Lime Street (used to live there as a child, before moving to Ringland), also any information about the Breen family (used to live in no6, Lime Street). Regards and best wishes

  13. Hi Jan, What a great site!!

Looking at Pill 1978 it's funny to see Derek Godwin (T.A team) with hair! also lovely to see the lates Terry Richardson and George Bullock as we all remember them (in their oils).

Have you any info on my great grandfather Jerry Shea from Pill? he was a boxer and was capped many times playing rugby for Wales.

  22. Hi Jan,

Not sure if he was Polish or Russian. Have found some Pashilinsky's (with various spellings) in Prestwich who were Russian but I'm not sure of the connection. It would be wonderful if you manage to find anything. Thanks.

    Claire

  23. Hi Claire, was he Polish perhaps? I shall do a banner headline asing for the help of our friends and see what happens

  24. Hi Jan,

I'm looking for a bit of help. I have discovered that my great-aunt was married to Reuben Pashilinsky in 1912. On their marriage certificate he is described as an optician although I don't know if he worked for himself or in a firm. I just wonder if anyone may know of him or the family. Fingers crossed.

Pill people always showed a flair for invention, this green alternative, eco friendly mode of travel was first shown in the 1975 Carnival, would it not be lovely if we all travelled to work in a bath tub?
