Newports Last Music Hall ?
the Newport pavilion
The Pavillion Newport, was still enjoying live performance until the early 1950s. It was not the most illustrious theatre in Newport and in no way compared to the grandiose Lyceum, situated in the centre of town. However it boasted such everyday names such as Max Bygraves, Vic Oliver and the notorious pianist Charlie Kunz. Here are some images of of acts who appeared in 1948. they are taken from their publicity cards which they happily signed and gave to the theatre staff of the day.
Left, funny man Davy Kay and the notorious pianist Charlie Kunz (1896 - 1958) who performed in the Newport Empire Theatre on the night in which it burnt down. There was no connection between the two events ...........
