Jan, I'm so impressed. Not only was there a link to Charles White but I've now found a photo of one of the tugs my grandfather worked on - the Lady Tredegar. My grandfather was Lionel Walter Long and worked on tugs out of Newport all his working life until he retired in 1955.

I'm looking for a bit of help. I have discovered that my great-aunt was married to Reuben Pashilinsky in 1912. On their marriage certificate he is described as an optician although I don't know if he worked for himself or in a firm. I just wonder if anyone may know of him or the family. Fingers crossed.

Not sure if he was Polish or Russian. Have found some Pashilinsky's (with various spellings) in Prestwich who were Russian but I'm not sure of the connection. It would be wonderful if you manage to find anything. Thanks.

Wow loved the article and photos of the Kensington Court Club (The Ken) and brought back some great memories...i was a member of The Ken from late 1972 to 1974 and saw some great bands such as Nazareth,Stealers Wheel,Dr Feelgood,Dave Edmunds,Brinsley Scwarz,Sassafras,Man,Crazy Cavan etc....had some wonderful times there and even met my first 'proper' girlfriend Gail Ryder there in April 1973...i remember well the manager Ricky King (is he still around ?) and a dj called 'Big Al'....please,please,please,would love to hear from anyone else who was a regular between late 1972 and 1974 and to hear of any stories or recollections about The Ken !

What a treasure trove of pictures. As well as the County pictures I loved the ones of the old Ken Club. I notice on photo 861-8 a very young looking Allan Morris now Councillor Morris Mayor of the City of Newport (4th from the right.)

Looking at Pill 1978 it's funny to see Derek Godwin (T.A team) with hair! also lovely to see the lates Terry Richardson and George Bullock as we all remember them (in their oils).

Have you any info on my great grandfather Jerry Shea from Pill? he was a boxer and was capped many times playing rugby for Wales.

Excellent site......My family lived lived in Pill for many years. I still have an Aunt and cousins living there although my parents moved to Malpas in the early sixties. Since then i've emigrated to the US but still try to get back as often as I can. I still enjoy going "down the 'arriers" and having a pint in the Royal Oak.

Great site Jan, quality pictures of my two main interests of the mid 70s, County and the Ken club.

Remember the Pans People night well (I must have been sober) where they mixed with the crowd after their show.

I still follow the County by the way, and am married to the girl I met up the Ken.

JAN, You,ve got me again!!!! Im addicted.. The Legendary "Pill Heritage Centre" was an Aladdins cave of memories and photographs,which, on entering , transported you back in time, to , "The old days of Pill". Sadly, We no longer ,have the pleasure of visiting, "The Heritage Centre", but gladly ,like" The Pheonix" Quiet Womans Row,has once again, risen , within, this lovely site, to present us with another Time capsule ,full of memories, of which, you should be ,so very proud jan. The pictures change, on a regular basis, (So,People,) dont just nip in and forget, If you dont see a familiar face this time, Im sure you will, next time... Excellant site. I have been researching the history of the area and my family for many years and just love the dedication that you have for this site. My family were the Jefferys who came over to Pill from Guernsey in the late 1800s. My grandfather was a Channel Pilot and my Great Grandfather gave up the sea to open a Hairdressers and tobacconist on Alexander road. Number 88. We have a lovely photo of his shop hanging on the wall taken around 1910 possibly. The family also lived in Brunel Street and generations down the line the family is still there!

Please keep up the good work.

I have just been sent the kensington court club. Yes I am there with of course Ricky king. (my husband at the time. The sad part is in the photo is my sister anita, chris and gary our brother. Gary passed away 44 and then my sister 55. I was chris (ika) who told his son and then he rang me. Having lived in the Kensington court club just after ginna, and of course lovely marylin. THANK YOU for the memory of it. As we all know the kensington was the place for years.

They were great years, so little to think about and so much fun to be had, glad you enjoyed looking I will add to it as soon as I can. We had lots of great entertainers and singers in Newport I would like to feature them all eventually. Must keep the Newport thing going it's our town!

Hi. Remember Ken well. Went to school in Father Hills. Great days. Still married to girl I met at the Ken. have family and now live in Cwmbran. Worked with Mervyn Thomas in the mid 70's at Girlings New Inn. We became friends with Mervyn and Jackie and lost contact when they split. Do not know where Jackie and Kirsty live now, but sadly Mervyn passed away. Anybody remember us?

Well great memories of the Kensington I have, my second home from the mid 1960's to 1970 when I got married after meeting my wife there.

Still got my Ken membership card and the amount of people that used to get in on a night, in through the front door, out to the gents toilets and pushed through the gap between the two exit doors to the next chap outside and so on!!

I used o drive a Morris JR van that was covered in some sort of writing and cartoon characters and was usually seen in the car park of the Ken or outside the Globe Inn in Llanarth Street.

Glad vehicles don't have memories because that could have hung me a million times, LOL!!

Hi, I loved the Ken and was mainly a Thursday night regular to see the bands from '72 - '75.

A few of my mates, also Ken regulars, were in the local (Newport) band Heckta (had been Hector but had to change when we discovered another band with that name). I think they might have been the last band to play there in January 1975. It was my birthday bash, and by then the council had installed one of those sound meter monitors that cut the electricity to the stage if the sound exceeded a set limit of decibels. So rather a subdued set. Later the council revoked the drinks licence and that really killed off the Ken.

I'd love to hear from any other regulars from those days. I left Newport in '85 and am now living just outside Liverpool.

great site, mam and dad used to live in alma street with nan and grandad.

dad worked for burt boultons and wynns grandad was a train driver during the war i would love to see more photos of pill during the war and also burt boultons.
