Here begins the story of the Engineers Arms, a strangely sited pub at the top of Bridge Street and East Street, overlooking the railway cutting at the end of the Iron Railway Bridge linking Albert Terrace and Tunnel Terrace. Throughout it's history the Engineers enjoyed the reputation of being Newports most diverse Public House. All aspects of humanity were to found between its yellowing walls. Builders, Barristers, Shop Keepers, Artists, Musicians and many more, content to just sit and watch life as it was. Our story begins, with the era of Dennis and Flo about to come to an end with a manic pile of pennies competion (1980) and the lengthy stewardship of Roger and Diane Boswell to begin. This site will be a large entry covering in detail nearly 20 years of Drinking History in one of the cities best loved hostelries. ENGINEERS CLOSES JANUARY 2009

There were many of us devastated when the South Wales Argus first reported the final closure of our much loved old friend, The Engineers Arms. Those years of music , memories, The Engineers Bugle (The only pub in the world to have its own newspaper) with a massive print run of one. The functions, the incredible mish mash of clients from every concievable walk of life. All currencies accepted , Coin of the realm, fresh salmon, Giros, promisary notes and the wifes basque would all get you a pint in the Engineers Arms.

Now we have the greatest pleasure in publishing the many hundreds of images taken over the years, of the Acme Band, the renovations and of most importance the people.
